I’m nursing a really nasty cold (all together now – “Ahhhhh!”). So, I’m wallowing in the luxury of a SOFA DAY. I’m on the sofa, with Loose Women playing softly in the background – Anthea’s accepting responsibility for Grant’s infidelity, what utter rubbish! -, dressing gown on, heating turned up, lamb doing in the slow-cooker, overdosing on Lemsip.
I’ve had a hectic few days – the birthday was lovely. The Daughter, bless her, bought me a much wanted DVD player and Series One of Mrs Brown’s Boys to go with it. I’ve already watched half the episodes, laughing out loud all the time, envious of the acting and writing talents of Brendan O’Carroll. It’s really strange, because I don’t “get” drag artists and I hate gratuitous swearing, yet I’m absolutely hooked on it. I first saw the stage show at the Liverpool Empire a few years ago (five? six? possibly more?) and enjoyed it, but it’s since I started watching half way through the second series that I’ve become such a fan. My only criticism is the weak acting ability of some of the cast. I feel talent was sacrificed on the altar of nepotism, but Brendan is outstanding and the BAFTAS and other awards he’s won are very well-deserved.
But I digress! The birthday!
So, I had a wonderful birthday lunch with the Daughter and we did indeed raise a glass of cava to the memory of our beloved Teresa. Lunch with the Daughter is always great but she made it really special for me. Thank you, my darling!
Then on the way home I stopped off to see miliner Katie Vale, about making me some sort of headgear for a friend’s wedding in May. Katie is amazingly talented and she suggested a large “flower” fascinator in colours to match my coat-dress, which is absolutely FABULOUS! I’m so thrilled and excited with it and it was great fun trying various hats and fascinators on in Katie’s show/workroom at Barleylands Craft Farm (Billericay) and she’s just been in touch today to say it’s finished already! I will post a photo, I promise.
Then, the birthday evening was spent with the Sister, the Brother, the Sister-in-Law and Nephews at a yummy Indian restaurant in South Woodham Ferrers – wonderful food and great company, especially as Younger Nephew and I share a birthday. Lots of nice presents from them and also I had loads and loads of e-cards and FB messages and e-mails and cards and phone calls, including one from the Fella Who’s Faraway – a day early in case he forgot!!
Then, on Friday I was thrilled that the wonderful Kerry-Anne Whyte asked me to be in her play at the Anna Scher Theatre. It went very well and we are in the Festival of Plays this coming Friday. Good to be doing some acting again while waiting for The Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em to shoot later in the summer. It’s been a while since I’ve had an audition – NKM are you reading this???????? (ha ha!)
So, that’s it up to date. I’m now going to have another Lemsip and then I’ve got a date with an Irishman in a frock. Can’t wait!
