Today I went back to teaching drama.
It made me realise that I’d missed it. And I’m not ashamed to admit that I was very nervous about doing the classes as it’s been a while since I last stood in front of a class and taught anything. But it’s like riding a bike; you never forget.
I met some great new students who did some excellent work and already I can see their potential, which for a drama teaching is really exciting. Classes are small at the moment but I know they’ll grow, especially when new people join and see all the great things I’ve got planned for both the children’s classes and the Actors’ Factory, which starts tomorrow. Several people have asked me if you have to be a professional actor to attend the Actors’ Factory. The answer is NO! But what you will get is training at a professional level, which, even if you’re not planning on becoming an actor, will help to boost self-esteem and give you great communication skills. All I ask is that you are committed to coming to class, turn up on time and take it all seriously. And don’t be put off by my use of “seriously”. We’ll be having great fun throughout the sessions.
So, Stage One at Stages Studios is over; tomorrow is Stage Two. Bring it on!
One of the many great things about Stages Studio is its location. I had a real trip down memory lane mooching about Romford between classes. I haven’t done that for such a long time. I’d forgotten just how “Essex” Romford is, if you get my drift. I enjoyed myself though and managed to get the Bag, to match the Fascinator and the Outfit and the Shoes for the Wedding I’m going to in two weeks’ time. Result!
And speaking of weddings – while I’m taking my Actors’ Factory group tomorrow, my dear ex-drama student – who now runs two highly successful performing arts schools of her own – Ms Jennie Palmer will be marrying Sean Kennedy. I wish them both loads of love, luck and happiness.
