The play what we wrote is on the road! At the Actors’ Factory we’ve got the storyline laid out for our first production. How exciting is that? VERY!! I LOVE the concept of forging your own future, especially in the world of theatre/film where it’s so easy to sit back and get disheartened because you aren’t being cast or things aren’t happening for you. Sometimes it’s bull-by-the-horns time and you have to get on with it. And that’s what we’re doing at the Actors’ Factory. We’ve got HUGE plans and we’re starting to make them happen. It’s a long old road but if you don’t take the first step you’ll never get anywhere.
And speaking of the Actors’ Factory, I was over the moon to see some ex-students pop in – Luke White from Times Red – so proud to see how well he’s doing – and then Vicky Jackson and Claire Summers – two stunningly beautiful young women. Great times when they were kids in my class – great times now!!
I’ve also had another MAGNIFICENT MANIFESTATION. Remember the BA compensation and the wordsearch prize and then the free hairdo? Well, to that we can add £25 worth of FREE PETROL! I renewed my car insurance a couple of weeks ago and vaguely remember reading something about a petrol voucher for staying loyal and then promptly forgot it until it arrived in Saturday’s post. Woo bloody hoo! (I’m now working on Denzel Washington appearing in my bedroom!)
And I’ve taken a MOMENTOUS DECISION. Two items in the news have resulted in me taking this MD.
Barbara Hewson, a leading barrister, has called for the age of consent to be lowered to 13 “to stop the persecution of old men”. She omitted the adjectives dirty, sick and perverted from her sentence. We are already in a sad enough situation with children having sex and children having children. How many of the social problems we face stem from that? The underclass, the families where three generations have children by the time they’re 15 and live the rest of their lives on benefits. Why do I have to be “non-judgemental” about such people? Girls are vulnerable enough. Many have sex far earlier than they are ready for it because they feel pressured into doing so. Paedophiles have defended themselves for years by saying that the youngsters “like” it and were “willing participants”. Surely Ms Hewson can have no children or grandchildren?
And then….
I am so sick and tired of seeing how we (the British Public) have been totally manipulated by Charles’s publicity machine. We’re so smug we think we live in a free country. The images in the press and tv of the Old Trout at the State Opening of Parliament just go to show how we’ve been manipulated into “accepting” her. “We’ve moved on” we’re told – that’s usually said by those sinning rather than sinned against. Yes, time has passed since the Waleses divorced and it’s now almost sixteen years since Princess Diana died. But the fact remains; the Old Trout befriended a naive 19-year-old, whose only problem was believing the man who’d asked her to marry him did so because he loved her, while all the time shagging said 19-year-old’s fiance and husband, while being married to someone else herself. That’s downright nasty. And there’s a word for women who do that to other women.
Yet, because the pompous, petulant, pampered prince who owes every morsel of food he’s ever eaten to the public purse hasn’t had the balls to ever speak a kind word about his ex-wife, the mother of his two handsome, decent sons but just stamps his foot and wants to be with Camilla, we have to accept it. Looking at the images of the two of them sitting next to the Queen and Prince Philip – Charles looking like a hideous cariciature from a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta and older than his father made me feel sick. The BBC – who even blanked out the boos at their wedding – fawned over them. Journalists wrote orgasmic articles about her champagne highlights and gown – although you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear. But I felt sad that we have been so manipulated – am I the only person who can see it? Charles is wealthy beyond most people’s wildest dreams, all thanks to us. He was able to set up his highly successful business thanks to everything his “birthright” gave him. He’s even selling chicken houses for £3750 on his website!! So why don’t he and his consort just retire into the background and live happily ever after?
*Gives a big sigh* We live in a country where adulterers are feted and there is a school of thought that sexual predators should be given the green light. Added to that, fifteen year-olds are stabbing each other on buses and throwing acid over strangers and quite frankly I don’t want to know! So…..
For one whole month I’m going to stop watching the News on TV and reading newspapers, either hard copy or on-line, because I don’t want to know! I’ve heard other people declare that not hearing the news is liberating. I’ve always, always watched it and been an avid newspaper reader. Ever since I was in my early 20s and had a Spanish boyfriend, Frank, who was much older than me. A Catalan who’d grown up in Franco’s Spain, he’d taught himself to speak English and French so that he could listen to the news from foreign stations on his little transitor radio. He had a real need to know what was going on and that rubbed onto me. My life evolves around the Six O’Clock News. Or rather it did!
But not for the next month. I don’t like the world we live in sometimes; I don’t like the way the news is twisted – especially by the “neutral” BBC; I don’t like the scare-mongering and the sensationalism. I don’t want anything to affect my mood. I don’t want to be manipulated. I don’t care which celebrities were at the BAFTAS and if I read or hear one more word about the surly Alex Ferguson I think I’ll throw up! Burying my head in the sand, you say? No, exercising my right not to have my happiness upset and disturbed. For the next month Elaine’s Life is a news-free zone!
I’ll keep you posted!
And lots of GOOD LUCK wishes to the Older Nephew who’s starting his GCSEs today. I KNOW you’ll be fine and do really well, Nephew! You deserve to! xxx
