Oh yes! What a sweet sound woke me up during the night – no idea of the time as I didn’t look at the clock. I just sort of came out of sleep to realise it was raining. Sweet, heavy raindrops were hitting against my bedroom window and then big, booming, treacley claps of thunder confirmed there was also a storm, which was, hopefully, clearing up the atmosphere a bit.
Don’t get me wrong – I love summer! But, English summer. Not the thinks-it’s-the-Caribbean summer of the last two weeks. Yesterday afternoon was unbearable. I sat in the garden with the Sister as it was too hot inside the house and we roasted. Being sunny was lovely, but the heaviness of the heat and the humidity made it uncomfortable. So I was delighted to realise it was raining. And today – well, it’s still a bit sticky but far more pleasant and I’ve actually been up and writing for an hour and a half, with a song I learned at school, would you believe, going round my head:
Down came the raindrops on a cloudy day
Wetting all the pavements, washing dirt away
Waking little brown buds, thirsty seeds as well,
Right into the blades of grass the tiny raindrops fell.
How strange I can remember all the words to that little ditty that I learned when I was about six, yet I can’t remember if I took my tablet this morning! But that doesn’t matter! I”m sitting here in the cool and enjoying it.
On another note – it looks like we may finally have solved the legal hold-up on the sale of Mum’s flat. I am touching wood as I say that, of course. But hoo-bloody-ray!!
And on the royal birth – I’m pleased the baby is healthy and happy for William and Catherine as I would be for any other young couple who have just had their first baby. I will resist all comments about living off benefits. My one question is – Was it absolutely necessary to have a media carousel for an hour – the hospital – the palace – Bucklesbury – the hospital – the palace – “What can you tell us, Nick?” “Well nothing more than I told you four and a half minutes ago, really” . Surely a newsflash followed by an extended News at Ten would have been enough, wouldn’t it? Did it really warrant taking off Long Lost Family?
