Well! It’s been a funny old week and a half at what is almost turning into Wimblegeddon. After all the injuries and shock-exits of last week – drum roll – Serena Williams out in the fourth round! Who would have thought it? I know that Sabine Lisicki is a good player; she’s put out big names in previous Wimbledons, including Sharapova and Li Na. But Serena? The list of quarter-finalists would probably have got you odds of 5000-1 before the championship started. And it’s a bit like that in the men’s draw, too, although at least there the No 1 and No 2 seeds are still in and looking likely to meet each other in the final. I can’t see anyone stopping them. But then I’d said that about Serena! What do I know? Shame we lost Laura yesterday. At her press conference she was like a human deflated balloon, poor dear. Tennis/sports journalists have had a field day this year. Most of them need to hang their heads in shame; they seem to know as much about tennis as they do about grammar. If I read the amount of players one more time I think I’ll scream!
Socially it’s all been a bit of a whirl since my last journal post. Last Wednesday I had a fabulous evening full of belly laughs with my great buddies from Palmer’s College last week. I just love them all and it was so good to spend time with them again, And I’m still laughing at J’s anecdote about menopausal magnets. Must use that in the Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em. And then on Thursday I went with the Sister to the O2 to see Mrs Brown. We had a bite to eat with the Daughter before we went in, which is always lovely. We seem to see less and less of each other lately. I always enjoy the O2; the staff are welcoming and friendly and the seats are comfortable. The show was hilarious; made up of the best bits of the TV series, which meant I’d seen most of it but still laughed my head off. Brendan O’Carroll is a very talented man.
And the curtain’s gone up on Ladykillers! Yes! So great to be a part of it all again. A different theatre and different cast mean it’s almost like being in a different show. But so nice to be working with M and J and N and S and A again.
I am a very lucky woman! In the prime of life and having a ball!
hi Elaine i just need to say i love your writing and when i read anything i imagine you saying it you need a one woman show coz i could listen to you all night x
Thanks for your lovely comment, Kerryann! It’s been suggested I do stand-up but I lack the nerve! I did originally perform What’s Eating Me as a one woman show on the London and Edinburhh fringes. X
