Yes! I’ve been in Antigua for a month already! Unbelievable really! Four weeks and two days to be exact. It’s the age-old question, isn’t it? Does time speed up as you get older? It certainly seems to.
S left yesterday. It was good to have her here and also to do some ‘touristy’ things. Her eleven-day stay flew by, too. And now I’m knuckling down to get on with finishing The Banjo – I know you must all be thinking that Tolstoy took less time to write War and Peace 😉
I’m getting very impatient at the moment, too, about the pool. I asked two builders for estimates. One came back the following day with what seems a reasonable one for what needs to be done, but I wanted something to compare it to so I told him I was waiting for the other guy’s and that I’d get back to him. Well, the other one came and said he’d have his estimate to me ‘In a few days’. That was almost three weeks ago and still nothing from him. He obviously doesn’t need the business! When I’d heard nothing after ten days, I went back to the first guy and said I’d go with him. However, seeing that I’d hesitated, he’d taken another job. I don’t blame him, I mean, he’s not going to sit around waiting to see if Elaine Spires is going to make her mind up or not and give him the job. But, this job is taking longer than he’d thought. He’d said he’d make a start last weekend but he didn’t. I’ve spoken to him this morning and he’s now saying this coming weekend. I do hope so. I was right at the back of the queue when patience was given out, I’m afraid, and I’m now chomping at the bit! Still, I’ve waited all this time, what’s a few more days?
On Saturday night S and I went and saw the Antigua Girls High School’s drama group, Honey Bee Theatre, perform two plays written and directed by the very talented Zahra Airall. Â Zahra is a director of August Rush Productions as well as teaching drama at AGHS. Â It was a fundraiser for the care of Deputy Head Girl, Shaveesa Gasper, who suffered second and third degree burns to 80% of her body at the start of the year. Â It was a great evening’s entertainment on every level and the cast and Zahra should be immensely proud of themselves with their performances and also for coming up with the idea of raising funds for their colleague and co-actor. Â Several of the cast showed a maturity and confidence in their roles way beyond their years and experience. Â The two plays – The Forgotten and Whispers in Wallings – were totally different from each other. Â I particularly enjoyed Whispers in Wallings as it was about Antiguan mythical creatures – Mami Wata, Mama Dglo, Djahbless, Doen Soucouyant and Mama Malade – that I knew nothing about. Loved it!
