This book couldn’t be more different from Kitty’s USA Today best-selling Lucien Knight series, which topped the erotic charts on both sides of the Atlantic. It’s fast and funny; a book where rom-com/chic-lit meets the supernatural meets murder-mystery. So if any of those genres is your favourite, this could be THE summer-read for you. Kitty tells me she luurves all things romantic – songs, music and of course, books and this is obvious from the very first page of Melody Bittersweet and the Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency.

ES: Many congratulations on Melody Bittersweet and the GGA, Kitty. I’m sure people will love it and that you’ve got a huge hit on your hands. And thanks for taking the time out to join us today on Hot Holidays!
KF: I’m happy to talk to you, Elaine, so thanks for asking me.
ES: Right, then! Let’s plough straight in! Where did you spend your last holiday, Kitty? And why did you decide to go there?
KF: We often choose the Balearics, and last year we holidayed in a villa in Menorca. We have two young boys, so a villa with a pool was perfect as we could all really relax and wind down. That said, I always choose somewhere that has wifi and take my laptop so I can write and do the essential stuff. I never really clock off!
ES: I know what you mean! Ha ha! What’s your favourite type of holiday?
KF: Holidays for me are all about relaxing. We search around hard to find a villa that is walking distance to a good beach and resort, then stock up the fridge with cold beer and wine and chill out! We do hire a car and get out and about and see the sights a bit too, but nothing too taxing.
ES: And what would be your least favourite?
KF: You’ll never find me hanging off a mountain in a harness or kayaking the Amazon! I’m not a camper either; glamping maybe, though, at a push!
ES: I’m with you on that. Camping? Count me out! What was your best ever holiday and what made it so memorable?
KF: Probably my honeymoon. We’d originally planned a couple of far-flung sunny weeks, but our son was eighteen months old at the time and we didn’t want to leave him with my folks for that long. We switched plans to just three nights in Paris, and maxed out our budget to stay at the beautiful Four Seasons hotel. Even nicer, they upgraded us to a suite, which was super glam and a lovely way to start married life. It was a short, but very sweet honeymoon!
ES: That sounds perfect. Who doesn’t like a super-luxury hotel? But have you ever had any holiday or travel disasters?
KF: Well, when I arrived at the airport to fly off to Paris on honeymoon, I realised standing in the queue to check in that I’d brought the wrong passport with me! I’d organised myself to death beforehand and ordered a new passport in my married name, and they’d returned my old passport back to me with the corned snipped to invalidate it. I don’t know how I managed it, but I packed the invalid one instead of the new one.
ES: No!!
KF: Yes!! I had a complete meltdown when I noticed! I’m generally quite calm and level headed, but I think the pressure of the wedding and all of that jazz had built up sufficiently to send me into an absolute tailspin. I was a crying mess! My new husband was a superstar, called our neighbour who fortunately had a spare key, and she raced over to the airport with my new one while the airline kept the desk open until the last possible moment. We made the flight with 2 minutes to spare, and I ordered a very large gin as soon as we were in the air!
ES: I’m not surprised! I feel like I need one just listening to your story. Wow! Is there anywhere you haven’t visited that you’re really like to go to?
KF: I’ve never travelled long haul, and now that we have kids it’s unlikely that we will for a few years yet. But in the future I’d love to see the Seychelles, and also Thailand. I like to think that we will become globe trotters once our boys are self sufficient and off doing their own thing.
ES: That sounds really quite reasonable. Who is your favourite travelling companion(s) or are you happy in your own company?
KF: I should say my family here, shouldn’t I? I do actually love family holidays, because we’re all so busy, it’s great to have time set aside to enjoy each other’s company. We recently hired a cottage high in Snowdonia, and the views were to die for. It was a warm sunny week and the internet was patchy, so we played games, read books, sunbathed and walked. Really peaceful and restorative.
ES: Now this is where we get personal… Have you ever had a holiday romance?
KF: I’m too dull, I’ve never had a holiday romance!
ES: You write erotica and rom-com, I can’t believe you’re too dull! Ha ha!Now, if where would you go if you could travel to any worldwide destinations for twenty-four hours with no travel or time restrictions?
KF: Well, I’ve never been on a cruise, but I do quite fancy a luxury ocean liner. It looks a relaxing way to see the world, so maybe I’d dot between the jewelled Caribbean Islands on a ship.
ES: And finally, what tip or piece of advice would you give to holidaymakers/travellers?
KF: Just choose somewhere that makes your heart soar when you think of going there. I get that feeling when I think of the Balearics, because I know full well that we love it there and will have the most wonderful break.
