I am Skyped right up! I am impressed, I might even say in love with Skype. As I blogged last week, we’ve been using it very successfully for rehearsals of Vagina Monologues and it has meant that we can rehearse without everyone having to be in the same room. Now, I know that some of you reading this it will be saying ‘What is she going on about? Skype isn’t exactly new!’ Well, I know that, but for me – a woman who is in the year 1754 where technology is concerned – it is a miracle indeed!
And today, I had a long conversation with the Daughter, who was on the
beach at Koh Samui. And that, to me, is amazing! So if you ask me what is the best invention of the 21st Century so far, I would have to say “Skype” without a doubt.
The Daughter is having the most amazing time. She and her friend, the lovely Laura, have packed so much into their first week and they still have two more weeks to go. In Chiang Mai yesterday they went to the elephants; a lovely place where they roam free in the jungle (the elephants not the Daughter and Laura) in between mixing with the tourists and the have no seats or saddles either, which makes a pleasant change as so many places make the elephants carry two people in a heavy seat and have them chained up. They’ve also had ringside seats at Thai boxing, been to temples, markets, palaces and even found time to play ping-pong!
And this time next week they will be in Krabi and I will be in Antigua, writing furiously and when I’m not writing, I’ll be filming, and we will still be able to talk to and see each other through Skype! And I will be able to rehearse my lovely Vaginas cast, too.
Isn’t technology wonderful?
