Wet and Wild

“This is a New Moon on steroids, the first Super Moon of the Year and a total eclipse at 18 degrees Pisces. The seismic window will be open between March 5-12, bringing high tides, storms and earth shifts.” This is what Lorna Bevan tells us about tonight’s New Moon in her forecasts for this week. http://www.hareinthemoonastrology.co.uk/astrologer/2/Weekly-Forecasts.html

And she’s not wrong! Blimey! There have certainly been some high tides and stormy weather in Antigua. I got up early yesterday morning to do my washing and by eight o’clock is was hanging on the line. Ten minutes later the skies opened and it rained heavily for an hour or so. The sun then came out so I smiled inwardly, thinking that within another hour it would be lovely and dry. Wrong!!

As the day progressed it became like some sort of mad meteorological game of sunshine and showers. At one point there was so much rain coming in I couldn’t see Sleeping Indian; just one mass of grey mist. Unfortunately, I haven’t got anywhere inside to hang clothes to dry – I’m now thinking of putting up a line in the garage, though – and at no point was the washing dry enough to bring in. And then suddenly, about four o’clock the wind got up. And I do mean got up! I looked out to see my washing was doing the hokey-cokey in all corners of the garden. By the time I retrieved it – looking like some mad woman, chasing round after sheets that were daring me to try and grab them – it was covered in dirt, grass and bits of plant and still sopping wet. And so was I. So muttering and cursing I dumped it all back into the machine, where it is now getting re-washed this morning.

But then the wind went up a gear. Deary me! All through the night it was howling round the house and I have to say for the first time ever in Antigua – I felt COLD! It was so loud and strong that it woke me up several times. It’s quite pleasant now, but the wind is still partying, which means the washing should dry quickly if it doesn’t rain again. #fingerscrossed.

Yesterday was busy with a large chunk of the day taken by a very productive production meeting. I’ll tell you more about this in a couple of weeks #exciting! Today is a writing day 🙂 it’s nice to be back in the swing of it.

I had a bit of a wobble on Sunday, to be honest. The hire car had gone back, because it’s a luxury to have it sitting outside Avocado Cottage on the days I’m writing and not going anywhere. But, it IS nice to have it! So with no vehicle I am a little cut off. The bus into St John’s leaves from the bottom of the lane – about 400 yards away – but it runs to an erratic timetable and I’m not even sure it runs at all on Sundays. Anyway, I was feeling a little isolated. It was Mother’s Day and I opened the most beautiful card from the Daughter that I’d brought with me, and put on the gorgeous Michael Kors bracelet she’d bought me, then thought about my own Mum and what I’d give to be able to send her just one more Mother’s Day card and promptly burst into tears.

But, then I had a word with myself and got on with the day. I’d had a lovely Saturday – out for a drink and a bite to eat and then the cinema – and Monday was also fine – I’m living in a beautiful, tranquil spot, in my own little cottage with friends nearby and loads more friends and family on Skype and FaceTime so what have I got to be bawling about? NOTHING! And compared to the last sixteen months in a poky little flat that was costing an arm and a leg in rent and council tax, with no balcony or even cupboard space, I am in Paradise at the moment.

I must just mention that the film I saw on Saturday was Eddie the Eagle. I left the cinema with a broad grin on my face; the film is a real delight; a biopic that has you laughing with Eddie and not at him. My friend M, who was cabin crew for years, once met him on a flight and says he is the nicest man in the world and I can easily believe that. Lovely to see Graham Fletcher-Cook and Dickon Tolson working in it, too.

And a belated Happy International Women’s Day to you all for yesterday. And for all the whinging men who ask the perennial question ‘Why is there only an International Women’s Day?’ I suggest you read this. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jess-phillips-stuns-mps-reading-7518114 Truly shocking! And there IS an International Men’s Day, by the way, November 19th. You’re welcome.

I’m heavily into Series One of The Affair, which the Daughter bought me for Christmas. OMG! I am LOVING it! So cleverly put together and with some of my favourite actors – Ruth Wilson, Dominic West and John Doman. It’s one of those I-want-to-watch-the-next-episode-but-that-will-bring-me-nearer-the-end scenarios.

Right! The washing machine has just finished, the sky is showing dashes of blue. I think I might be able to get this washing back out on the line. And if whether I’ll get my laundry dry is my biggest problem of the day, then I am truly blessed.
