Holly Martin

Today I am delighted to have the wonderful Holly Martin as my Hot Holidays! guest.  Her latest book, Fairytale Beginnings came out on 10th July and I have just started reading it and am loving it!  Holly won the Carina Valentine Competition at 2013 Festival of Romance with The Guestbook and the Sunlounger Competition, which led to her story being published in the Sunlounger Anthology.

ES: Hi, Holly, thanks so much for joining us today. Can you start by telling us where you spent your last holiday and why you chose to go there?
HM: Last year, I went … Read the rest »

Like a Tourist!

Yes, folks! That’s me! I’ve had a couple of lovely days doing touristy things – although I have been working hard on The Banjo and on a series of guest blog spots that I’ve got coming up. More about them a little nearer the date but I’m very excited to have the opportunity to guest on some pretty fabulous blogger’s sites!

So – I went to a great restaurant – Stella’s – last night with my lovely friend BP. I had never been to Stella’s before but I will certainly go back. I don’t think they get much passing trade … Read the rest »

Fabulous, Flaming Flamboyant

Well, the best laid plans… I was coming to Antigua to rest, relax and write. So far I’ve done very little of any of the three. Mercury must have been retrograde during the last week or so, at least since last Friday when I arrived. On landing I was unable to send texts or make anyone hear me on my little Samsung button phone that I use while I’m here. I have had it for about eight years so it doesn’t owe me anything, but it was rather inconvenient for it to pack up on arrival!

I was a little … Read the rest »

Everything at Once

Sometimes….most times…or at least often, everything seems to happen at once.  Not that I’m complaining; nothing is worse than nothing going on.  It would be nice, though, if things spread out a bit more. LOL!

And I’ve organised things so badly!  Wimbledon being a week later has really thrown me.  This week I’ve got a meeting at the Brentwood Theatre, wardrobe and rehearsal for pilot TV show I’m involved in (hush hush at the moment), financial stuff, which I HATE!  I have a huge fear of all things financial, including form-filling.  Fortunately, I have someone helping me to do it … Read the rest »

Angela Marsons

I am so, so happy today because my Hot Holidays! guest is Angela Marsons. Yes, THE Angela Parsons; the author of Amazon #1 Bestsellers SILENT SCREAM and EVIL GAMES, two of the best books I’ve read – nay, devoured – in a long time.

Angela lives in the Black Country with her partner, their bouncy Labrador and a swearing parrot.
She first discovered her love of writing at junior school when actual lessons came second to watching other people and quietly making up her own stories about them. Her report card invariably read “Angela would do well if she … Read the rest »

Let’s Not Make It Be One Night Only

It was a wonderful night. A warm, fuzzy night. A comfort-blanket night. A night of nostalgia, friendship, love, support, childhood bonds and immense talent. A night that said: ‘Those who have danced together stay together.’
It was One Night Only, the show put together to raise funds for life-prolonging medication for Samantha Lines, who is suffering from cancer and whose medication is no longer available on NHS. You may remember me writing about it in my blog of 27th April (Nostalgia). The Daughter and a group of her friends who danced together at Jean Hewitt’s got back together and put … Read the rest »

Birmingham and Annie B (again)

I’ve had a busy few days.  Or rather I had a busy few days earlier in the week; I’ve spent yesterday and today at home trying to rest and relax and give myself a bit of TLC as I fight off joint aches, a sore throat, a thumping head and general not-feeling-well.  But the first half of the week was fabulous.

The rather lovely Annie Burkin featured in Hot Holidays! on 8th June, and that evening her play Selfie Rules had a rehearsed reading at the Theatre Royal, Stratford East.  I went along to see it and left in absolute … Read the rest »

Annie Burkin

Today we have such a special treat because our Hot Holidays! Guest is East London writer and actress ANNIE BURKIN! And she joins us on such a special day, too (see below).

Annie decided to reignite her passion for acting back in 2005 where she enrolled at the Anna Scher Theatre School in Islington. Here she learnt drama through improvisation and also was given the opportunity to write, perform and direct a series of 20-minute plays over a few years resulting in her being awarded the Best Actress and Best Play categories in AST Festivals several times.

Annie’s theatre … Read the rest »

Broadway Babe

Regular readers will have heard me sing Julie Barker’s praises before.  I have written about her talents as a choreographer (in Melabeau Productions’ Cinderella) and actress (in Melabeau Productions’ Vagina Monologues) and she shared her Hot Holidays! with us last year.  Well, as well as working as a choreographer and actress, Julie is also the principal of a large stage school – Tip Toes.

Julie has always been supportive to all her students and has actively encouraged them to audition for professional productions in Essex and the West End.  For years she has put troupes into professional and charity shows.  … Read the rest »

Super, Satisfying Saturday

When I got Saturday mornings back a couple of weeks ago, I decided not to waste them.  After all, one of the reasons that influenced my decision was the fact that if I used the time productively on my writing, that I could write another book in a short space of time.  So, I got up early this morning and spent two hours working on my next novel, which has the working title, The Banjo.  Then I went and got the paper, prepared my vegetable smoothie and took my place in the armchair, from which I have had to be … Read the rest »
