Fingers and Newly Pedicured Toes Crossed

My iPad has been playing up, hence my silence on the blog.  It’s thrown out my hotmail and is taking slow to another level.  Two nights ago I fell asleep as it was buffering so long while I was waiting to comment on someone’s post on Facebook.  So, if you’ve e-mailed me or messaged me and I haven’t replied, my apologies, and this is the reason why.  It’s also messed up my Skype.  I’ve Skyped the Daughter several times and can see it’s ringing on the screen, yet she tells me it’s not ringing and her Skype has no record … Read the rest »

Angela Bradshaw

I’m delighted to introduce our guest today:  Angela Bradshaw!

Angela Bradshaw wants to live in a world where everyone has beautiful posture.

As a teacher of the Alexander Technique, she’s been educating people on the merits of natural poise and balance, through her programme of Self Care Skills. Angela believes that the ultimate life skill is learning how to take care of ourselves as a whole: How we function, how we ‘use’ our bodies, how we think – all are required for health and well-being. Angela’s teachings demonstrate how to get the basics right … Read the rest »

Upgrade and Up Early

I’ve been in Antigua twenty-four hours now.  Today, like most days here, has passed in a second.  I arrived yesterday after a two-hour delay at Gatwick caused first of all by an electronic short in one of the seats and then a faulty loo door.  It was all very civilised, though, apart from the time spent in the Aspire Lounge.  Oh dear!  It was full to bursting – although fortunately about half those in there left within half an hour of my arrival – not that the two were necessary connected!  Everyone wants nice experiences and the airport lounge is … Read the rest »

A Hundred Years On

Tomorrow marks the centenary of the outbreak of WWI.  There have been loads of activities with a WWI theme and yesterday I went to see Paper Planes, Havering’s Community Play, at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.  Paper Planes tells the story of William Leafe Robinson, a pilot who was based at Sutton’s Farm Air Base, who was a real hero.  He survived being shot down and taken prisoner, being kept in solitary confinement and torture only to come back to England and then succumb to Spanish Flu.  Some cast members were stronger than others and the writing was weak in places … Read the rest »

A Few of My Favourite Things

Oh the bliss!  The relief!  The just plain LOVELINESS of finally having my furniture out of storage and my own things around me once again!  I have boxes and bags everywhere, both upstairs and down, but I’m going at my own pace, unpacking and unwrapping as familiarity slowly surrounds and envelopes me.  And sleeping in my own bed again!  PRICELESS!  I’m happy to be living back within Greater London, not least of all because I am nice and near Theatreland.  After my bargain ticket to see Handbagged, I was fortunate enough to get another one to see The Importance of … Read the rest »

Handbagged and Gobsmacked

It was Monday last night.  This means that I was reduced to a snivelling, bawling wreck just five minutes into Long Lost Family.  I was very disappointed with last week’s episode as I found myself getting really annoyed.  I was annoyed at the fecklessness of both fathers who were happy to just walk away and not take any interest in or responsibility for their child’s life.  I was also angry at the mother who ‘found herself pregnant again’ just two months after giving up her baby for adoption.  Found herself??  It’s like that other phrase ‘fall pregnant’ as if it’s … Read the rest »

Slaving Over a Hot Panto

Cor-Phew!  Hotter than Majorca!  So the tabloids would have us believe.  Well, at 33C today in God’s Own County, it probably was.  I had my weekly Skype convo with BP who’s in Antigua and who confirmed that it wasn’t that hot in the Caribbean and fortunately, Antigua usually has a pleasant breeze blowing off the Atlantic and you’re never far from a beach.  So I’ve been Ms Grumpy today; on the phone all morning to utility companies and slaving over a hot panto all afternoon.  Nearly finished!  And I giggle as I’m writing it.  I’m writing with my own music … Read the rest »

Sue Watson

Big drumroll today as we welcome our guest………..SUE WATSON!

Sue enjoyed a very successful career as a journalist with The Sun and The Daily Mail and a TV producer with the BBC. Like many women, she reached a point in her life juggling children, marriage, long hours and high pressure at work and realised that she had to make a change if she was to realise her dream of writing a novel.
Her decision was made for her when one day her daughter Eve, then aged 6 was sent home from school with suspected meningitis and Sue and husband Nick … Read the rest »

It’s Piracy, Pure and Simple!

I’m upset.  Really upset.  On behalf of my lovely friend-in-ink, the magnificent Mandy Baggot, who kept us all entertained in her recent Hot Holidays! spot, but also on my own behalf and that of all writers.

Two of Mandy’s books have appeared for free on a website.  She writes about her anger i. I totally empathise with her.  People think that writers live the life of Riley, sitting at home Ll day, knocking out a couple of thousand words and then laughing all the way to the banks, whilst sipping champagne and signing the million pound film … Read the rest »
