I’m Coming, George!

I’m ecstatic to be going to see West Side Story at the Royal Albert Hall tonight, with the Sister.  It’s a showing of the film with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra playing along.  How cool is that?  And what’s really getting me excited – apart from the music and the choreography which were truly ground-breaking when the film came out – is the thought of seeing George Chakiris again.  Love that man!  And the sight of him in that mauve shirt I will take to my grave!  About sixteen or seventeen years ago I saw him playing Mr Rochester in Jane … Read the rest »

Buried in Bluebells and Caroline’s Colours

This week started with the news of yet another death, this time of my friend and colleague Mark’s dad.  Life has thrown a lot at Mark in the last few years and I really feel for him for his loss.  And perhaps it was that, plus a visit on Father’s Day to my own parents’ grave that got me thinking about my own death, especially about the funeral.

Sorting out my Mum’s funeral, and then all her stuff, was extremely stressful and that was with sharing the load with the Sister and the Brother.  My own darling Daughter is an … Read the rest »

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig

So – I’m back in Blighty!  The last few days in Antigua passed in a blur of activity. There was filming; the pilot episode of the Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em.  We shot right up until 3pm on Sunday and I had to be at the airport for 6!!  Great fun, though, and kudos to all concerned.  So laidback!!  I’ve never been on a shoot where the actors are the first ones there – but hey! – there’s a first time for everything!  And I have to say, that once everyone arrived it all went so well.  Apart from … Read the rest »

Days Are Flying By

Where have three weeks gone?  Huh?  Who can tell me?  I can’t believe I’ve only got three days left before I leave Antigua.  I have this sort of panicky feeling that I’m running out of time.

I’ve promised myself some beach time tomorrow, after I’ve been to APUA offices, that is.  I am dreading the thought of that.  Usually I deal with this wonderful woman, Ms Goodwin, but she’s not in the office at the moment and I’ve been told I have to go into the offices in person to deal with my problem, which is, I admit, totally of … Read the rest »

The Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em – ACTION!

What an exciting week it’s been!  After two years of planning we are finally shooting the pilot episode of the Amazing Adventures of Maisie and Em.  Heather Doram and I went onto ABS Television’s  breakfast programme, good Morning Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday as our characters.  It was a lot of fun as Maisie and Em flirted mercilessly with presenter   William Dorsett, who was a good sport and gave co-presenter the lovely Brucella Marsh a lot to deal with.  We then had a production meeting and ran our lines together Nd then with the producer and director and this morning … Read the rest »

Girl-friend Belly Laughs

There is nothing – NOTHING – in the world like having a really good belly laugh with a close friend.  I can’t speak for men, but for women, those moments with a girl-friend when you laugh until you can’t speak or you fear you may wet yourself are priceless.  That’s how it’s been for me this week with my dear friend V, who I’ve just left at V C Bird International Airport as she waits for her BA flight home.

We’ve know each other for years; have been there for each other through so many traumas and moments of great … Read the rest »
