The Green-Eyed Monster

In the last twenty-four hours I’ve tried very hard to find another acting job as Ladykillers is in its last four weeks. Boo! Boo! Sob! Sob!

I was gutted to find out that my planned trip to Antigua next month has ruled me out of  applying for several juicy parts.  So, the way I’ve decided to deal with this disappointment is to put myself forward for loads of other parts, thus turning a negative into a positive.  I much prefer to be pro-active and have never been one to let the grass grow under my feet.  And, the nature of … Read the rest »

Bravo! Bravissimo!

No Retailer’s Raspberry today.  Quite the opposite.

I want to sing the praises of Bravissimo in Coventry Garden.  In a girlie-conversation in the Green Room at the Vaudeville, M our lovely wig and make-up artist told me about them.  So I went along and had myself properly sized only to find I’d been wearing bras that were 2″ too big across the back and 3 cup-sizes too small!  Is it any wonder I always felt so uncomfortable?  I wore my new, proper-fitting bra to the Daughter’s birthday lunch and received compliments!  And I feel as if I’m standing up straighter. … Read the rest »

Nostalgia….

One of life’s best little luxuries is waking up naturally, when your body is ready and not being shocked into wakefulness by the shrill clamour of the alarm clock.  And today it was especially good to wake up for the first time at almost 9am to the gentle sound of the rain against the window and snuggle under the duvet for another hour or so,

My only venture out was to buy the paper and then to have a really lazy day.  But it’s been a very nostalgic day.  Yesterday I heard the sad news of the death of yet … Read the rest »

Old Four Eyes

It’s a chilly day today; winter drawers on!

I’m not sorry, though as it’s lovely to see how the leaves are changing colour now and the nights are drawing in. I love the changing of the season, each one having its own beauty.  People are sometimes surprised that I like cold weather or the rain but I really do. The only thing I dislike is the wind (oh stop it!) and that’s because I’m a contact lens wearer and it blows particles of dust into my eyes that then feel like rocks.  I’ve worn lenses since I was eighteen.  Yes, … Read the rest »

Tiger! Tiger!

According to Chinese astrology I was born in the Year of the Tiger, which might explain why I love them so.  One of the most amazing moments I experienced while leading singles’ holidays was seeing a tiger walking through the grass in the early morning light in India. Truly magnificent!

So, when I saw the footage of a baby tiger that’s been born in the zoo I gave a great big smile. Watching the huge mother lick him (or her apparently gender won’t be known for a few weeks) was a spine-tingling moment and in a week when human mothers … Read the rest »

Ding! Ding!

My journey from Hadleigh to the Vaudeville Theatre involves my taking the no 15 bus from Fenchurch St to the Strand.  Now, often, the poor service offered by said omnibus in as much as buses running very late, changing destination halfway through the journey and ignorant, cocky drivers, has been the source of much anger and frustration to me, but on three occasions now I’ve had a really enjoyable ride.

The 15 route is one of the few that still uses the beautiful old Routemaster buses.  I love it when I see that the bus coming towards me is one … Read the rest »

What A Saturday Night!

Last Saturday night we celebrated the Brother’s 50th birthday.

It was an 80s themed night so I, of course, went as Madonna.  The Sister went as Peggy from Hi De Hi and the Daughter as a Rubic’s Cube.  We hit trouble as soon as we left home because we needed petrol and none of us wanted to get out and put in.  Fortunately, we had enough to last until our way home when, in deserted petrol station I whipped off the tutu before filling up with unleaded.

The Brother had gone as the Kenny Everett character, Angry of Mayfair, in … Read the rest »

It’s Monday morning…. But I haven’t got that Monday Morning Feeling!  No siree!  I am walking on sunshine. I am floating on Cloud Nine.

Yesterday evening we had the world premiere reading of SINGLES’ HOLIDAY – THE PLAY!  And what a reading it was!

To say I was nervous was an understatement.  All I could keep thinking was ‘What if they don’t get it?  What if nobody laughs?’

But they did get it and they did laugh!

First of all I have to say that I was lucky enough to have an amazing group of actors reading the roles.  I … Read the rest »

Indulge me!

Yes!  Today I’m on my soapbox!  I’m trying to be mindful – as the Daughter likes to remind me – that this is a journal not a rant, but for today – indulge me!

As regular readers know,I stopped listening to, watching and reading the news because the manipulation of the media offends me,  But over the last week or so I’ve been driving a lot and I can’t drive in silence, so I listen to the radio in the car.  And, I’ve read the odd paper, too, lately going on the train and waiting in the Green Room.  … Read the rest »
