Recognised from the Rear

Yes, many of you have recognised it; my rear end in an advert.  So many texts, messages on FB and What’s App asking for confirmation that it was indeed mine.  And, yes, it is!  And seeing it in full HD has been quite a revelation.  And what’s interesting is that few people recognised me from the group scene at the end or in the ten second advert where I feature.  Yet everyone recognised my bum!  I’m hoping it was my dark red cardi that did it ( you had to supply your own clothes!). It’s enough to get you CONFUSED!… Read the rest »

Credit Where Credit’s Due

I woke up this morning to the disappointing news that Andy Murray has gone out of the US Open in the quarter-finals.  Boo!  Boo!  I would have like to see him defend his title – and so would he, I’m sure.  Never mind, he’s done so well this year taking the Wimbledon title and there’s still the Masters at the O2 in November.  Meanwhile my only cry can now be – VAMOS RAFA!

One thing I was glad for on waking was the drop in temperature.  I’m all heated-out.  The flat I’m living in is like an oven.  It has … Read the rest »

The Vortex

It’s a beautiful morning in Hadleigh.  I’d like to say I’ve been up since the crack of dawn but it would be a porkie.  I’ve allowed myself the luxury of a lie-in today.  Because I’m worth it.

It has been a very busy time since I got back from Antigua on Monday.  In fact, I was going to call this post ‘Am I on my Arse or my Elbow?’ but thought that might be rude and inappropriate.  But I’ve felt as if I’ve been gradually sucked into the vortex of the whirlwind that has been my life over the last … Read the rest »

Island Life

Me chilled!

Although it’s been (yet another!) flying visit, which is rapidly racing towards its end when I board BA 2156 tomorrow evening to head back to Gatwick, I can say I feel much more relaxed now that when I arrived. Even with the bit of racing around I’ve had to do, I do feel as if I’ve had a break, which is the whole point of having Avocado Cottage, nuh?

I’ve had a couple of lovely social events; dinner with B & C on their water-front veranda under a full moon.  Perfect!  This is one of the loveliest spots … Read the rest »

TRIBUTE TO JEAN HEWITT

Although I’ve enjoyed my time here in Antigua so far, my visit has been tinged with great sadness at the news on Saturday that my beautiful friend Jean Hewitt had died.  She joins the lengthening list of phenomenal women that I’ve loved and lost this year.

How ironic that she should die on a Saturday morning, as Saturday was always ‘Dancing Day’ for so many, many children, my own daughter included, for so many years.

And  ‘beautiful’ is a word that applies to Jean like few other people because she was a beautiful person outside and in,

She was a … Read the rest »

Enjoying the Silence

The silence is almost tangible.  It’s six am and I’m sitting on the veranda of Avocado Cottage, in the rocking  chair, immersing myself in the peace and quiet of this early morning bliss.  Occasionally the stillness is violated by the screech of a cockerel from further up the lane but apart from that there’s nothing.  Not even the whisperings of a gentle breeze.  It’s something I always notice when I get up very early; there’s no breeze, it‘s a late riser.

I don’t know if I’m going to be able to post this as soon as it’s finished as the … Read the rest »

It’s Strange

Well, that’s that then.  Mum’s flat is sold; we completed on Wednesday and what an emotional roller-coaster of a day it was!  Emptying the flat of everything was as if she’d died again.  The poor removal men must have thought they were dealing with a very weird woman who burst into tears when all they’d asked was “Is the headboard going?”.

What a wrench!  And the new owner has gone straight in and ripped up carpets and started pI’ainting – all things I’d have done if I’d been given a mortgage – yet her doing this, with what is now … Read the rest »

Woo Who!

I have to say that I have never really been a Dr Who fan, simply because sci-fi is a genre that doesn’t appeal to me in the slightest.  However, now that I can say I actually know the Doctor, I feel a keen insterest in the programme coming on!

I was very fortunate to have been in the first production of the Ladykillers at the Gielgud in Shaftesbury Avenue (the theatre where Dame Helen famously berated the Brasilian drummers while dressed as the Queen) from November 2011- April 2012 when the wonderful Peter Capaldi played Professor Marcus.  Being on stage … Read the rest »

Daniel

My dear regular readers will know that a month or so back I stopped watching the news because the manipulation by the broadcasters, and the supposition – one news bulletin I watched contained four items in the “this could happen!” vein – and the continual negativity and pessimism just got to me.  I actually didn’t miss it; I could eat dinner whenever I liked without  waiting for the Six O’Clock News to end and it was quite liberating not to know or care what was happening or what might happen if x y or z came to pass and to … Read the rest »

Anna’s Actors

On Tuesday night I was so thrilled to see a group of my mates from the Anna Scher Theatre come along to the Vaudeville Theatre in the Strand to watch the Ladykillers.  Every single one of them is a talented actor in their own right and I very much appreciated their support, especially as my role is small.  Although it’s said that there are no small roles only small actors!!

But this is the ethos that Anna Scher has always instilled into her students – to support each other.  When the Daughter attended AST as a child, they were always … Read the rest »
