I Love a FREEBIE!!!

Yesterday I was a very happy girl because I got a FREE hairdo!

Part of my BIWI** philosophy is getting my hair professionally washed and blow-dried sometimes, when I’m in a rush or need to look extra-specially good or just can’t be bothered!  And the salon I go to – Urban Utopia in Westcliff – offers a free tenth appointment – and that was yesterday.  Woo hoo!  So I went and had my swim and then didn’t have to worry about doing my hair because I was going to UU.  I don’t know if it was my imagination, but because … Read the rest »

And Stage(s) Two Completed

So the first session of the Actors’ Factory has now also happened.

It’s such an exciting time for me, seeing a dream coming to fruition and seeing people like the talented Nick Campbell, actor extraordinaire, coming along to support the group and enjoy himself doing what he does best.  We’ve already started making plans for shooting short films and full-length films and entering festivals and I’m having a ball.  Numbers could have been higher, but it was Bank Holiday weekend and I’m sure that once the ball starts rolling nothing will stop us.  As I said in my last blog, … Read the rest »

First Stage(s) Over

Today I went back to teaching drama.

It made me realise that I’d missed it.  And I’m not ashamed to admit that I was very nervous about doing the classes as it’s been a while since I last stood in front of a class and taught anything.  But it’s like riding a bike; you never forget.

I met some great new students who did some excellent work and already I can see their potential, which for a drama teaching is really exciting.  Classes are small at the moment but I know they’ll grow, especially when new people join and see … Read the rest »

STONED ……. BIWI!

Regular readers of this journal know that I am an orthodox, card-carrying, fully paid-up member of BIWI**  So when I saw the therapist at the Athenaeum was offering full-body hot stone massage at 25% discount I knew I had to have one!  Lately my back and shoulders have been really stiff and I was in the mood for some “me” time and some serious pampering (you start to see the underlying philosophy of BIWI, right?).

Well!  It was the most divine seventy-five minutes of absolute bliss imagineable.  Sofia, the therapist, used a mix of ginger, geranium and rosewood oils, which … Read the rest »

Law of Attraction in Action

Three years ago my good friend B gave me The Secret  in CD form for Christmas.  I became hooked immediately not just because it made sense to me, but because so much of it tied in with the spiritual beliefs I’ve held for a long, long time.  I am not religious.  I do not understand religious fervour.  I do not need a group of men – and all religions are male-dominated and male-led – to tell me what I should and shouldn’t believe or how I should live my life and what might happen to me after I’ve died if … Read the rest »

This Sceptred Isle…. This Wonderful Life

It has been a glorious St George’s Day.

The weather, to start with, was doing what it should at this time of year and gave us a beautiful sunny day.  I drove to Greenwich to have lunch with the Daughter finally – we hadn’t seen each other for five weeks as we both lead such busy lives! – and we had a great natter and catch up and as always it was just so lovely to see her.

And as the weather was so good everyone was sitting outside; all the terraces and grass area taken up with people who … Read the rest »

Tip Top Tip Toe Show

Last Saturday evening I treated myself to a night out in Basildon!  I was in the audience to see SHAKE IT OUT, a show performed at the Towngate Theatre by Tip Toe Stage School of South Ockendon.  And what a show it was!

Throughout the years I’ve been to many, many theatre and dancing school shows.  Some excellent and others… well, more rehearsal wouldn’t have come amiss, to put it politely.  But Shake It Out was fabulous on every level. The cast ranged from tinies, who couldn’t have been more than two and a half, to seniors.  Tip Toe principal, … Read the rest »

All Hail the Spring!

Well, we can’t deny that April is a month of showers.

I went to aquarobics fairly early this morning – at the Athenaeum Club in Rochford.  I enjoyed it but it probably wasn’t a good idea to eat a large bowl of muesli just before the class!  Anyway, when I left home and even when I came out of the Club, the sun was shining, albeit half-heartedly.  And all the way down the A127 to Ilford where my Hairdresser is located I needed my sunglasses.

But as I left the Hairdresser two hours later large, dark clouds were gathering ominously.  … Read the rest »

Somebody Stop Me!

Well!  As I was saying last week I think I’ve been taken over by an alien, and as today I completed my FOURTH workout at the pool in seven days I think it really is the case.  I feel so THIN!!  Looking in the mirror tells me that I don’t look that different, well, I don’t look any different, really, but I feel good and that’s the main thing.  And smug., as you’ve probably already gathered.

I have been knocked out by the enquiries I’ve received about my Actor’s Factory.  Talented people I’d feared I’d never work with again have … Read the rest »

Exciting News! – Actors’ Factory

Finally!   I’ve been able to make it public today – I’m starting up an acting group; my Actors’ Factory.  This has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time and now the time is right, circumstances have changed and the Universe has done what it always does best and has brought it to me.

All the details are on the new SECOND PAGE of ElaineSpires.co.uk – www.elainespires.co.uk/actors-factory  Places are limited and so I’m operating a first-come first-served system of enrolment.

I’m delighted that the group will meet at Stages Studios in Mercury Mall, Romford; good, central premises … Read the rest »
