Calm and Creative

Well, okay, not always completely calm, but certainly creative!

Since my last post I’ve settled into holiday mode.  On Sunday I took a little drive down the West Coast and was amazed to see so many changes in the five months since I was last here. There’s a new bar/restaurant on the corner of the road to Jolly Harbour and as I turned a bend in the road near Sugar Ridge I laughed out loud to see the new fish restaurant – it’s a big, red, double decker bus!!  Must try it out!  I had a spot of lunch at … Read the rest »

From my little bit of Paradise…

Well, here I am!  I’m writing this from my lovely little green house in Five Islands, Antigua.  I arrived yesterday after a very comfortable journey.  My local taxi driver Dave picked me up on time and we had an easy run-through to LGW.  The flight was an hour late but as I’d booked to fly Upper Class – BECAUSE I’M WORTH IT!! – I spent it in the Virgin Clubhouse.  I was then buggied to the gate – just as well as it was Gate 32 (why do the flights I take never leave from Gate 1?) and I couldn’t … Read the rest »

Sweet Lady, Sweet Moment…

Aaahhh!

That, is a huge sigh of relief.  My latest book has now been published.

Each book is something special and unique to its writer.  To me it’s my child, who I want looking her best before she goes out; I don’t want any criticism of her, just for people to approve of her.  And because i want them to enjoy the book I go over and over it, tweaking here and there, changing one word, sometimes a whole sentence, sometimes raising an eyebrow at what I’d written in the first place.  She is also my employee.  Each novel “works” … Read the rest »

International Film Festival of Antigua and Barbuda

Just a quick, happy, excited post for today – I’ve just had it confirmed that I will be delivering a workshop on characterisation at the International Film Festival of Antigua and Barbuda.

I am honoured, thrilled and excited to be a part of this festival which is making Antigua the centre of film-making in the Caribbean.

I’m so pleased that it’s taken away the pain of my sciatica that’s kept me awake for the last two nights and has me hobbling around like a 90-year-old.

Now I feel like skipping!!

Magical Mystery Tour

I”ve just come back from a great three days in the north west with my dear friend Val.  It’s one of those easy, comfortable friendships; you know the type – you don’t see each other that often yet when you meet up it’s like it was only last week that you last met.  Val is an amazing person – kind, witty, caring and a great cook.  On the first night she introduced me to the wonders of the slow cooker – beef done to perfection and now on my Christmas List (Santa please take note).

The highlight of the trip … Read the rest »

The World’s Best Bank

It was fantastic to get into bed last night realising that this morning would be Sunday and therefore I didn’t have to put the alarm on!!   Whoopee!!  So, of course, I was wide awake at 7am but then had the luxury of turning over and going back to sleep again.

The main reason for my exhaustion is the stress caused by dealing with Santander.  Now, if you’ve ever had the misfortune to ring them you would have heard their smug recorded message:-

“Thank you for calling Santander.  We have been voted the World’s Best Bank 2012.”

Well, I don’t know … Read the rest »

What a Carry On!

It’s been a funny couple of days. And I do mean Funny. I was fortunate to go to the wonderful production of Singing in the Rain at the Palace Theatre on Monday evening. It’s everything a musicals’ fan like me could wish for: great music, fabulously talented, energetic cast and good storyline, with the added novelty of water being kicked out into the audience!! Although we had brilliant seats in the circle, the little girl in me wished we’d been in the first five rows of the stalls.
During the interval we went for a drink and my sister decided … Read the rest »

We Should All Be Praying For April’s Parents.

I must admid that I’m somewhat loathe to put my twopence worth in the April Jones Abduction, but I’m becoming increasingly incensed by the army of Perfect Parents who are making it their business to criticise and have a go at April’s parents for letting her play outside.
Aren’t these poor people suffering enough? Only someone with the hardest heart could have seen April’s mum make her TV appeal and not been moved to tears themselves. The woman is obviously in pieces, so why are people who have nothing whatsoever to do with the case being so cruel and judgemental?… Read the rest »

Poo to the NHS!!

Yesterday I was invited to lunch by my dear friend, the wonderful Ms Anna Scher, of the Anna Scher Theatre. She is an amazing woman and wonderful company; articulate and educated, it’s a delight to spend time with her.
I absolutely love Anna, for a myriad of reasons, but not least of all because she has impeccable manners and she doesn’t “do” emails or texts. If Anna needs to talk to you she’ll phone you and if she wants to tell you something she will write you a letter. She’s one of the few people I get letters from nowadays, … Read the rest »

My X-Factor X-it!

I cannot take it any more.

First of all, Louis chooses two – not one but TWO – One Direction clone-boybands and leaves out the amazing Times Red. Then Tulisa leaves out the fabulous Leanne to take Jade, who perhaps has a “better” back story – she’s a single mum living in a tower block (yawn!).
Then, Jahmene, who in bootcamp gave the worst performance of faking nerves I’ve ever seen and something called Rylan (oh, God! he had to be from Essex, didn’t he? We’re really quite nice and normal here although you’d never think so if you only … Read the rest »
