Stormy Weather!

I was surprised not to see an Ark floating down London Road this morning as I had the joy of returning home on the bus (yes, I kid you not!) after taking my car back to Mr Clutch in Southend because it failed its MOT yesterday. Boo hoo! Some dear, kind, person took the back of the wing mirror a couple of weeks ago and because it left sharp edges exposed it failed.

Travelling by bus is an adventure I won’t want to repeat too often. First of all, the no 1, doesn’t appear to keep to the timetable shown … Read the rest »

If I Go Into a Shop I Don’t Expect to Serve Myself

I’ve just been asked yet again in Sainsbury’s if I want to do my own check-out. I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.
I tried to use the self-service check out once before in Tesco and it was the most stressful, embarassing ten minutes of my entire life. Ten minutes to buy £6 worth of groceries! I kid you not!
The woman in the machine kept on shouting out that there was an unscanned item in the bagging area. There wasn’t but what do you do? Everyone thought I was shoplifting. I ended up screaming at her “No there isn’t!” … Read the rest »

Happy!

Happy! Happy! Happy! Yesterday was one of those days that just made me feel happy and glad.

What happened?

Well two really great things – one is a secret so I can’t share it here for a couple of weeks and the other was a dear, dear old friend got in touch. This is a man who once meant the whole world to me; he’s charming, intelligent, kind, loving, generous and extremely talented and I feel really blessed that he’s come back into my life. His two e-mails were witty and tender and I’m so happy that we’re back in … Read the rest »

Another day, another audition

So, the call came yesterday evening for a casting this afternoon. A bit short notice, but hey! that’s the way the business rolls, I suppose. As always the butterflies are fluttering at the thought of it, but that’s all part of it, too.
Here I am, still waiting for my ‘big break’. At my age! The trouble is that very few – for that read none – directors/casting directors are willing to take a chance with older actresses who have limited CVs. I mean, if they want large comedy actress they’ll go with Dawn French or Caroine Quentin. Boo hoo!… Read the rest »

Off Day!

Oh dear! I don’t know what was going on astologically yesterday, but the planets sure had it in for Pisceans with Aquarius ascendant. There I was, happily writing away, surfing the wave of a tsunami of creativity and breaking the world record for wpm when my screen went blank. Nothing. And I do mean NOTHING at all. So, I did what they always tell you to do – I turned my laptop off and unplugged it, waited a couple of minutes and then switched it on again. Still nothing. Just a blank screen where there used to be a beautiful … Read the rest »

Mindgames

I was thinking about my lovely friend M this morning, who is half way up Machu Picchu at the moment, raising money for St Oswald’s Hospice. What a wonderful, loving person she is; she does so much for charities and other people. As my mind wandered along these lines I realised that it’s four weeks tomorrow until she comes with me to the Employment Tribunal, brought about by my being unfairly dismissed from my job over my fabulous holiday-read erotic novel Singles’ Holiday.
However, the post brought a letter from the Tribunal saying that the Respondent has asked for a … Read the rest »

At last!!

I’m feeling groggy today. As I haven’t got Sky Sports and neither British Eurosport nor BBC were showing the Men’s Final of US Open (why do I pay my licence fee? Don’t get me started!) So I ended up trying to follow the score on my phone while I was in bed!
After two tight sets Murray was leading 2 – 0 and so I thought it was in the bag. But Djokovic wasn’t going to roll over and came storming back to take the next two sets and level at 2 – 2. By this time my eyes couldn’t … Read the rest »

Perhaps I was a little unrealistic…?

Okay.  Perhaps fifty pages was being a little unrealistic, I realise that now.  I did, however, manage to write twenty-one on Friday and another eleven so far today, so I’m convinced that writer’s block is a thing of the past.  I can now sit at my laptop with hands poised over the keyboard – a bit like Lang Lang about to play a piece by Brahms – and the words flow.  Wonderful!  I hope the end product will be, too!

It’s been a strange couple of days: the unfortunate, untimely, unexpected passing of an acquaintance; then clearing out some more … Read the rest »

Procrastination

I’ve woken up lazy this morning! I’ve set myself a task to write at least 50 pages of Sweet Lady before I have to go out and do things this afternoon. So far I’ve had a long breakfast, watched people I don’t know talk about things I’m not interested in on Breakfast, had the shower of the century and am now writing this and not my 50 pages.

It’s not as if I’ve got writer’s block; I know exactly what happens next. I think. The book has two major twists. Am I subconsciously waiting for a third to come to … Read the rest »

End of a Tennis Era

It was a sad day today.  Readers of What’s Eating Me probably guessed that Andy Roddick is my tennis idol, and he retired from the game at the ripe old age of thirty.  He’s been plagued for the last year and a half with a shoulder injury, but then again when you’ve been hitting the ball at 155mph every day for the last fifteen years it’s no surprise that your shoulder wears out.  He was a likeable guy who always wore his heart on his sleeve and who wasn’t afraid to stand up for himself and so got a bit … Read the rest »
